Myth 5: The more bars, the faster the internet.
Reality: Bars refers to signal strength, not internet connection speed. While signal strength is crucial, the actual internet speed is dependent on the type of technology being used, network congestion, network infrastructure, and so on.
Myth 6: Wi-Fi networks and cellular networks are interchangeable.
Reality: Wi-Fi networks and cellular networks make use of different technologies. Wi-Fi operates in a local area where cellular covers a much boarded geographical area.
Myth 7: Telecoms service providers are tracking your every move and every conversation.
Reality: While telecoms service providers do collect data from their customers, data privacy laws restrict the use and sharing of their customers’ personal data without their consent. A lot of the data that they do collect is used for service improvement purposes.
Myth 8: You must sign a lengthy contract to make use of telecoms services.
Reality: Many telecoms service providers offer no-contract plans or prepaid options.
Myth 9: The quality of VoIP is lower than traditional phone lines.
Reality: If coupled with a stable internet connection, VoIP can offer audio quality in-line with that of traditional phone lines.
Myth 10: Telecoms networks are invincible and will never go down.
Reality: Telecoms networks do experience outages which can be caused by a variety of factors like; natural disasters, cyber-attacks, hardware failures, network congestion, etc.
